iMac Pro coming to India soon with starting price of Rs 4,15,000, in US on sale now
The iMac Pro, the most powerful iMac Apple has made so far, is now on sale in the US. It has a starting price of $4,999 there for the 8-core variant. Apple on Friday said that it will also soon come to India and will have a starting price of Rs 4,15,000 here.
Although Apple has not specified this yet, it is almost certain that this price in India is for the 8-core variant of the iMac Pro. In fact, chances are that Apple may launch only one variant, which is the 8-core variant, in India. The information about the iMac Pro availability in India comes on the day the computer goes on sale in some countries, including the US. For now, in the US the 8-core and the 10-core iMac Pro units are available. In 2018, two more variants — 14-core and 18-core — will be added to the line-up.
The iMac Pro is a computer primarily meant for professionals who are part of multimedia industry. For everyone else there are the iMacs and the MacBook Pro laptops, which are also significantly cheaper than the iMac Pro. Apple said that the consumers who demand even more performance and flexibility can wait because the company is also working on a completely-redesigned Mac Pro.
Given that it is meant to be used by professionals, iMac Pro also comes with ridiculously fast hardware. Apple says that with “Xeon processors up to 18 cores, up to 22 Teraflops of graphics performance, and a 27-inch Retina 5K display, iMac Pro is the fastest, most powerful Mac ever made.
Making clear that this computer is for professionals, the company highlights that the iMac Pro is meant to crunch data while real-time 3-D rendering, immersive VR, intensive developer workflows, high-megapixel photography, complex simulations, massive audio projects and real-time 4K and 8K video editing.
“iMac Pro combines the incredible design of the iMac with the most powerful workstation architecture we’ve ever built,” said John Ternus, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering. “iMac is the most popular desktop for our pro users due to its amazing display and elegant design, so we completely re-engineered it to deliver performance far beyond what anyone thought possible in an all-in-one.”
All-in-all, here is what the iMac Pro offers consumers (according to Apple):
— Up to 18-core processor. It is possible that in India only the 8-core and the 10-core variants are launched because the other two — 14-core and the 18-core — could be too expensive for the market.
— All-in-one design of the iMac despite its pro credentials. It is 5mmm thin at the edge.
— 27-inch display with 5K resolution. It supports 500 nits of brightness, a P3 wide colour gamut and support for over 1 billion colours.
— FaceTime camera with support for 1080P video streaming.
— New speakers that are 50 per cent louder.
— Up to 4TB of SSD and up to 128GB memory. In the base variant it is 1TB and 32GB.
— AMD Vega GPU with 16GB graphics memory. Up to 11 teraflops theoretical compute power.
— A custom T2 chip that offers better security on the computer as well as integrates several new controllers like such the System Management Controller, image signal processor, audio controller and SSD controller.
