Poco X2 is now official but what happens to Poco F1? Should you still buy it over Poco X2?
The Poco X2 has been launched in India, replacing the F1 as its latest phone. However, Poco has stopped making the F1 and you can only buy one until stocks last.
- The Poco X2 replaces the Poco F1 in India as Poco’s latest offering.
- Poco has stopped manufacturing the F1 and you buy the F1 until stock last.
- The Poco X2 starts at Rs 15,999 and goes up to Rs 19,999 for the top-end variant.
The Poco X2 has finally been launched in India and based on on-paper specifications alone, it is a highly appealing smartphone for its price. The Poco X2 may not be as powerful as the Poco F1 but it certainly is an all-rounder in many ways. Unlike the F1, the Poco X2 focuses on design, build quality, cameras and the overall user experience. And, when you consider the starting price of Rs 15,999, the Poco X2 comes across as the best value for money phone you can buy today, even better than the Poco F1.
But what about the Poco F1? If you head over to Flipkart, you can still see a few variants of the Poco F1 selling at the same prices as the Poco X2. In fact, the base Poco F1 with 128GB storage is still selling for Rs 14,999, which is actually cheaper than the Poco X2. Hence, if you want to buy a performance-oriented phone from the house of Xiaomi, which one should you choose? Is the old warrior still capable of fighting the new kid on the block?
What happens to the original flagship killer?
As of now, you can still buy the Poco F1 from Flipkart and Amazon. You can even head over to the nearest Mi Home and get the Poco F1 at same prices. However, there’s something you need to know before you buy the Poco F1.
Poco General Manager C Manmohan in a conversation with India Today Tech said that the company has stopped manufacturing the Poco F1. While the actual reason for the disruption in manufacturing wasn’t given, he hinted towards Qualcomm’s decision to discontinue manufacturing the Snapdragon 845 chipset. Hence, the F1 is produced no more.
The units that you see in online stores, as well as Mi Homes, are the leftover stocks of the Poco F1. Hence, you can still buy new units of the Poco F1 despite Poco discontinuing it and the Poco X2 going on sale.
Should you buy the Poco F1 now or go for the Poco X2?
During the interaction with India Today Tech, Manmohan said that Poco will continue to provide software support to the Poco F1 for the foreseeable future. He did not say whether the phone will get the Android 11 update or unique new features. However, Manmohan did say that Poco wants to make long-lasting phones and the F1 will be supported by the company for the time being.
That brings us to the question – Should you buy it now?
That said, the F1 is still the most powerful smartphone you can buy even today under Rs 20,000. The Poco X2 may have a Snapdragon 730G gaming chipset but it’s still no match for the mighty Snapdragon 845. Hence, if gaming performance is all you seek, the Poco F1’s two years old Snapdragon 845 can still deliver loads of performance.
The Poco F1 also has a 4000mAh battery, which is big even by modern standards. There’s also support for 18W fast charging as well. The F1 also gets an IR Face Unlock system.
However, for everything else, the Poco X2 is a far superior phone. We had the phone for review and the X2 impressed us with its amazing camera performance, stellar battery life, stunningly smooth 120Hz refresh rate display and a highly optimised software.
